Enrichment, Clubs and Trips
We offer a range of fantastic experiences and clubs for all our pupils to learn and have fun!
After School Clubs
At Reach Academy Hanworth Park we have a range of after school clubs that run almost everyday after school. These clubs allow our pupils to experience new sports, spend more time learning about subjects they are interested in, or learn brand new and vital skills such as debating.
The clubs we currently offer include netball, football, debating, maths, history, science and board games.
There is also a morning sports club that is run every Monday morning before school for students who want to start the day in an active way. During this club we focus on sports that we don’t currently cover on the curriculum, we have played badminton, basketball, rounders and cricket so far. We have had an excellent turn out and those students who come really endeavour to work hard even in the early mornings!
Schools’ sports competitions
This year, we have been lucky enough to start playing fixtures against other schools in a combined team called Reach Schools with Reach Academy Feltham. Our year 7 and 8 boys football teams have had some great results against Lampton and Heston. It is really exciting to see where this will take them!
Reach Schools competitions
We have also started inter-schools competitions, with years 7 and 8 participating in netball and football against Reach Academy Feltham. The pupils have shown fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork throughout these matches. At the moment we are tied in each year group, so we are looking forward to what this month brings!
We encourage everyone to join a club to help their physical, social and mental wellbeing. We know that regular exercise has great benefits for a child’s academic progress as well as their mental health.
Inter-form competitions
After the pupils learn about a sport, they compete in an inter-from competition during lunch time. This brings excitement and competition and allows those who want to participate to try and win a trophy for their form.
So far we have held handball, netball and gymnastics competitions, which have been great fun for them to play and for staff to referee and judge.
Enrichment
Every Friday during period 6, our pupils finish lessons early to enjoy ‘enrichment’. Teachers run these fantastic sessions so that our young people can enjoy opportunities they may not find elsewhere. Pupils with over 75 on their payslips enjoy enrichment in either computing, poetry, sports, science and history on a rotation. They all really enjoy their Friday enrichment and it is a great way to end the week.
Bertha Earth
As part of enrichment, we have been working with Bertha Earth, a youth-centred environmental organisation. Its aim is to connect young people to nature and reignite a love of the planet.
Our pupils have been involved with the programme once a week since October, taking part in team building, debates, performances and trips in nature. It culminated in a project about what they are most passionate about in nature. We saw some amazing creations, on subjects such as ‘Should Whales Have Rights?’ One of the trips was to Bushy Park, where pupils went pond dipping, hugged trees, made smelly smoothies, and found out about camoflaged animals.
School Trips
At Reach Academy Hanworth Park, we believe trips help broaden pupils’ horizons and deepen their learning. We take regular trips to London’s museums, galleries, theatres and parks.
Science Museum
Recently, all year 7 pupils visited the science museum in South Kensington for a day. During the trip they explored many of the museum’s galleries such as the Space gallery, Medicine gallery and the Technicians gallery. They also spent lots of time in the Wonderlab. The Wonderlab is the museum’s extremely fun and interactive gallery where pupils get loads of hands on experience with many science experiments, and get to test out how quick different materials are as a slide!
Shakespeare’s Globe
Our first cohort of Year 7s visited Shakespeare’s Globe last year to learn about theatre in Elizabethan and Jacobean England. Alongside a tour of the theatre itself, our pupils had a fantastic time walking along the river, eating a picnic lunch outside the Tate Modern, and taking part in a workshop about Romeo and Juliet with a professional actor.
Residential Trips
We also run an annual residential for pupils: our founding cohort of Year 7 headed to France in summer 2025 for their first ever residential. They have been learning French language skills and used this to find out more about the culture, food and landscapes of the country – trying snails, boules and much more!
Our current Year 7s headed off for a residential this summer too. They went to Buddens Activity Centre for three days, and had a great time trying new activities, learning about teamwork and each other!
School Productions
We aim to have at least one big school production every year, where pupils come together to perform a play or musical. Last July, forty-five of our Year 7 pupils performed Shrek the Musical and this year we are looking forward to enjoying watching the pupils in Oliver!
The cast of Shrek worked incredibly hard rehearsing for the show and we had so much fun in the process. The singing and dancing looked absolutely fantastic, and we are incredibly proud of all the children involved. Many of our pupils have also supported us by designing and building props and scenery for the performance. The performances were sold out and a great success!
